A Revival For Our Times - 4

We all accept the fact that  is an order for there to be a spiritual revival, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit is necessary. But little emphasis is given to the fact that the outpouring of the Holy Spirit is conditional. The Lord Jesus was very clear in this regard.
If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:15-17.
Note that the same apostle John tells us who are those who know Him.
He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 1 John 2:4, 5.
Therefore, every leader, every minister, every Christian should be weighed by the attention they give to the law of God, whose basis is love.

To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Isaiah 8:20.
Many religious teachers assert that Christ by His death abolished the law, and men are henceforth free from its requirements. There are some who represent it as a grievous yoke, and in contrast to the bondage of the law they present the liberty to be enjoyed under the gospel. *2
But not so did prophets and apostles regard the holy law of God. *2

  • David: "I will walk at liberty: for I seek Thy precepts." Psalm 119:45.
  • The apostle James, who wrote after the death of Christ, refers to the Decalogue as "the royal law" and "the perfect law of liberty." James 2:8; 1:25.
  • John, the revelator, half a century after the crucifixion, pronounces a blessing upon them "that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Revelation 22:14.
The claim that Christ by His death abolished His Father's law is without foundation. Had it been possible for the law to be changed or set aside, then Christ need not have died to save man from the penalty of sin. The death of Christ, so far from abolishing the law, proves that it is immutable. The Son of God came to "magnify the law, and make it honorable." Isaiah 42:21. He said: "Think not that I am come to destroy the law;" "till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law." Matthew 5:17, 18. And concerning Himself He declares: "I delight to do Thy will, O my God: yea, Thy law is within My heart." Psalm 40:8. *2
Jesus said:

Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Matthew 5:17, 18.
These words are too clear to ignore.

Though John in his epistles dwells so fully upon love, yet he does not hesitate to reveal the true character of that class who claim to be sanctified while living in transgression of the law of God. *2
"He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth His word, in him verily is the love of God perfected." 1 John 2:4, 5.
Here is the test of every man's profession. We cannot accord holiness to any man without bringing him to the measurement of God's only standard of holiness in heaven and in earth. If men feel no weight of the moral law, if they belittle and make light of God's precepts, if they break one of the least of these commandments, and teach men so, they shall be of no esteem in the sight of Heaven, and we may know that their claims are without foundation. *2
Let none deceive themselves with the belief that they can become holy while willfully violating one of God's requirements. The commission of a known sin silences the witnessing voice of the Spirit and separates the soul from God. "Sin is the transgression of the law." And "whosoever sinneth [transgresseth the law] hath not seen Him, neither known Him." 1 John 3:6. *2
This will be the greatest argument of the false revival. Everything is an emotion, everything will look like a great blessing but it will not lead the sinner to acknowledge his true state. The false revival will not lead the sinner to seek Jesus and through him to meet His requirements.

It's like couples who live together without getting married. They want to test whether things will work out, but do not want to enter legally binding commitment.

The real revival leads to sanctification. This process begins with God's law and is fulfilled by the Holy Spirit.

The law reveals to man his sins, but it provides no remedy. While it promises life to the obedient, it declares that death is the portion of the transgressor. The gospel of Christ alone can free him from the condemnation or the defilement of sin. He must exercise repentance toward God, whose law has been transgressed; and faith in Christ, his atoning sacrifice. Thus he obtains "remission of sins that are past" and becomes a partaker of the divine nature. *2
This is the first step, every leader must preach the law of God which is like a ruler with which we can measure our lives. It enables us to understand how far we are from having a Jesus-like character.

Are now free to transgress God's law? The Bible answers this question.

Paul:

  • "Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law." Romans 3:31.
  • "How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" Romans 6:2.
John:

  • "This is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not grievous." 1 John 5:3.
In the new birth the heart is brought into harmony with God, as it is brought into accord with His law. When this mighty change has taken place in the sinner, he has passed from death unto life, from sin unto holiness, from transgression and rebellion to obedience and loyalty. The old life of alienation from God has ended; the new life of reconciliation, of faith and love, has begun. Then "the righteousness of the law" will "be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." Romans 8:4. And the language of the soul will be: "O how love I Thy law! it is my meditation all the day." Psalm 119:97. *2
Now we begin to see what in fact is the true revival and why it comes with such great power. We begin to notice the characteristics of a true servant of God.

The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul. Psalm 19:7.
Without the law, men have no just conception of the purity and holiness of God or of their own guilt and uncleanness. They have no true conviction of sin and feel no need of repentance. Not seeing their lost condition as violators of God's law, they do not realize their need of the atoning blood of Christ. The hope of salvation is accepted without a radical change of heart or reformation of life. Thus superficial conversions abound, and multitudes are joined to the church who have never been united to Christ. *2
We have just touched the surface of this topic. But we can be assured that the anointing power of the Holy Spirit will open our hearts and through the Word of God we will begin the process of sanctification, a preparation to enter the kingdom of heaven.

Thought Of The Day

With unerring accuracy the Infinite One still keeps an account with all nations. While His mercy is tendered, with calls to repentance, this account will remain open; but when the figures reach a certain amount which God has fixed, the ministry of His wrath commences. The account is closed. Divine patience ceases. There is no more pleading of mercy in their behalf.

A Revival For Our Times - 3

One of the biggest problems most religious movements and even many of the oldest religions is the conversion some of its leaders into idols. Sometimes the words of such leaders is placed in higher esteem than the Bible and even God himself.

Part of this problem is the lack of knowledge and the small amount of time devoted to studying the Word of God. When a leader’s words or beliefs are placed above the Bible and the Lord himself, the end result is disastrous. The Bible tells us,
Test all things, hold fast what is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:21.
Every minister must lead to Jesus and hold the Bible as the highest authority.
The people of God are directed to the Scriptures as their safeguard against the influence of false teachers and the delusive power of spirits of darkness. Satan employs every possible device to prevent men from obtaining a knowledge of the Bible; for its plain utterances reveal his deceptions. At every revival of God's work the prince of evil is aroused to more intense activity; he is now putting forth his utmost efforts for a final struggle against Christ and His followers. The last great delusion is soon to open before us. Antichrist is to perform his marvelous works in our sight. So closely will the counterfeit resemble the true that it will be impossible to distinguish between them except by the Holy Scriptures. By their testimony every statement and every miracle must be tested. *1
There is no need for us to be deceived. Having the Bible, we must take advantage of this great light while we still can. It should illuminate our minds and direct our lives everyday.

In many of the revivals that have occurred over the past half century have been felt to a greater or lesser degree, the same influences that are exercised in the most extensive movements ahead. There is an emotional excitement, a mixture of truth with falsehood, suitable for one astray. But no one needs to be seduced. In light of the Word of God is not difficult to determine the nature of these movements. Wherever men neglect the testimony of the Bible and away from the clear truths that serve to test the soul and require sacrifice and detachment from the world, we can be sure that God does not dispense his blessings there. And applying the rule that Christ himself gave: "By their fruits ye shall know them" Matthew 7:16, it is clear that these movements are not the work of the Spirit of God. * 2

Humility

Again I emphasize the humility that all Christians should demonstrate. A denial of self is the only way in which the Holy Spirit can begin to work in us.

Daniel was an example of true sanctification…He was a man "greatly beloved" (Daniel 10:11) of Heaven. Yet instead of claiming to be pure and holy, this honored prophet identified himself with the really sinful of Israel as he pleaded before God in behalf of his people:…"We have sinned, we have done wickedly." He declares: "I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people."…Daniel 9:18, 15, 20; 10:8. *2
Job heard the voice of the Lord out of the whirlwind, he exclaimed: "I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes." Job 42:6. *2
Isaiah saw the glory of the Lord, and heard the cherubim crying, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts," that he cried out, "Woe is me! for I am undone." Isaiah 6:3, 5. *2
Paul after he was caught up into the third heaven and heard things which it was not possible for a man to utter, speaks of himself as "less than the least of all saints." 2 Corinthians 12:2-4, margin; Ephesians 3:8. *2
John (the beloved), who leaned on Jesus' breast and beheld His glory, that fell as one dead before the feet of the angel. Revelation 1:17. *2
Those who experience the sanctification of the Bible will manifest a spirit of humility. Like Moses, they have had a view of the awful majesty of holiness, and they see their own unworthiness in contrast with the purity and exalted perfection of the Infinite One. *2
As if that were not enough, what better example than our Lord Jesus who,

... being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:8.
Humility is demonstrated not only money wise,  especially when there are many who take advantage, generating large amounts of money and obtaining luxuries through the gospel.

Humility is particularly necessary in the spiritual sphere. Our lives have been purchased by the blood of Christ, we belong to Him. Our privilege of reaching heaven is a gift from God. We do not deserve it but we obtain it because he loved us.

Thought Of The Day

From the lips of the King of glory the benediction will fall upon their ears like richest music, "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world." Thus the redeemed will be welcomed to the mansions that Jesus is preparing for them. There their companions will not be the vile of earth, but those who through divine aid have formed perfect characters. Every sinful tendency, every imperfection, has been removed by the blood of Christ; and the excellence and brightness of His glory, far exceeding the brightness of the sun in its meridian splendor, is imparted to them. And the moral beauty, the perfection of His character, shines through them, in worth far exceeding this outward splendor. They are without fault before the great white throne, sharing the dignity and privileges of the angels.

Thought Of The Day

At that time the “latter rain,” or refreshing from the presence of the Lord, will come, to give power to the loud voice of the third angel, and prepare the saints to stand in the period when the seven last plagues shall be poured out...I heard those clothed with the armor speak forth the truth with great power. It had effect.... I asked what had made this great change. An angel answered, “It is the latter rain, the refreshing from the presence of the Lord, the loud cry of the third angel.”

A Revival For Our Times - 2

Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Genesis 3:4-6.
It may seem strange to present these verses when talking about the false revival, but this deception is what fuels it, it is the basis of it all.

The deceptions of Satan do not change. His techniques, his tools, his strategies may be different but his deception remains the same.

The desire to be equal with God, the exaltation of self is what grew in his heart and it is what he tries to implant in our hearts.
But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 2 Timothy 3:1-5.
These words not only describe non-converts. It also includes many who claim to be religious and even ministers.

Consider the messages presented in these large churches and popular ministries. When combined with the books that are published the focus always ends up being the same. The psychology behind points towards how to improve as a person. Although the Bible is added to it, this gospel is focused more on man than it is on Jesus.

With every truly converted soul the relation to God and to eternal things will be the great topic of life. But where, in the popular churches of today, is the spirit of consecration to God? The converts do not renounce their pride and love of the world. They are no more willing to deny self, to take up the cross, and follow the meek and lowly Jesus, than before their conversion…Picnics, church theatricals, church fairs, fine houses, personal display, have banished thoughts of God. Lands and goods and worldly occupations engross the mind, and things of eternal interest receive hardly a passing notice. *1
The aim of this “gospel” seems to be self-help and the obtaining of comfort in this world. It obscures and sometimes eliminates the fact that we are engaged in a cosmic conflict, struggling to reach heaven through Christ Jesus.

The desire for an easy religion that requires no striving, no self-denial, no divorce from the follies of the world, has made the doctrine of faith, and faith only, a popular doctrine; but what saith the word of God? (James 2:14-24) *1
In reality, the psychology behind such teachings is that we are called to be great people (your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil). God wants you to consider yourself a great and important person. You must value yourself and recognize that your life has great purpose in this world.

Now, we are considered as being of great value as an infinite price was paid for our salvation. But the honor is not ours for it belongs to Jesus who died for us. Our lives have no purpose without God. Moreover, we are simply pilgrims in this world.

Young men and women will be lifted up, and will regard themselves as wonderfully favored, called to do some great thing. There will be conversions many, after a peculiar order, but they will not bear the divine signature. Immorality will come in, and extravagance, and many will make shipwreck of faith. *2
The servant of the Lord in setting forth the current religious perils, quotes Professor Edwards A.Park,

"One source of danger is the neglect of the pulpit to enforce the divine law. In former days the pulpit was an echo of the voice of conscience…Our most illustrious preachers gave a wonderful majesty to their discourses by following the example of the Master, and giving prominence to the law, its precepts, and its threatenings. They repeated the two great maxims, that the law is a transcript of the divine perfections, and that a man who does not love the law does not love the gospel; for the law, as well as the gospel, is a mirror reflecting the true character of God. This peril leads to another, that of underrating the evil of sin, the extent of it, the demerit of it. In proportion to the rightfulness of the commandment is the wrongfulness of disobeying it…*1
I conclude by clarifying one point. Humility, reverence and that fear God demands is a product of love. Understanding the gravity of sin we approach God with confidence as He is the only true source of freedom and happiness.

While the Christian's life will be characterized by humility, it should not be marked with sadness and self-depreciation. It is the privilege of everyone so to live that God will approve and bless him. It is not the will of our heavenly Father that we should be ever under condemnation and darkness. There is no evidence of true humility in going with the head bowed down and the heart filled with thoughts of self. We may go to Jesus and be cleansed, and stand before the law without shame and remorse. *1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Romans 8:1.
Best of all is that we are prepared to soon be presented before the Father in the kingdom of heaven to live for all eternity. Through Jesus we begin a process of sanctification in which we can live in harmony with the divine principles and attain the glory of heaven not because we deserve it but because the Lord has redeemed us.

Thought Of The Day

Why has the Lord so long delayed His coming? The whole host of heaven is waiting to fulfil the last work for this lost world, and yet the work waits. It is because the few who profess to have the oil of grace in their vessels with their lamps, have not become burning and shining lights in the world. It is because missionaries are few...

A Revival For Our Times - 1

Throughout history there have been several religious movements that have created great revivals. But in the last days, we are told that just before the third angel's message becomes the loud cry, the enemy will began a false revival that will move large crowds. This event is now being fulfilled.

In recent days there have been revivals where "mega" churches meet, baptizing thousands, collecting millions of dollars, and performing signs and wonders through the supposed outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

We will start a mini series relating to this event, which has the purpose of unmasking the spirit behind it. Furthermore, we will see what we should be doing to prepare for the true revival which will really soon light the world with the help of the Holy Spirit.
And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders. 2 Thessalonians 2:8, 9.
We'll detail the spirit that is revealed through the messages that are presented (commonly called the gospel of prosperity), the form of worship (especially the music), the outpouring of the Holy Spirit (miracles and speaking in tongues) and why so many are attracted by these movements.

But most importantly we will see the true revival guided by the Holy Spirit, which will convince the world of sin, focus on Jesus as the only means of salvation and prepare the human race for His soon return.

The holiness of God will be revealed in the true form of worship and biblical principles with an emphasis on His perfect law. The true character of God will be reflected in the lives of all those who are part of this great spiritual revival which will soon manifest with great power.

Remember that it is towards these saints (Revelation 12:17; 14:12) that Satan's hatred for God will be directed.
Before the final visitation of God's judgments upon the earth there will be among the people of the Lord such a revival of primitive godliness as has not been witnessed since apostolic times. The Spirit and power of God will be poured out upon His children. At that time many will separate themselves from those churches in which the love of this world has supplanted love for God and His word. Many, both of ministers and people, will gladly accept those great truths which God has caused to be proclaimed at this time to prepare a people for the Lord's second coming. The enemy of souls desires to hinder this work; and before the time for such a movement shall come, he will endeavor to prevent it by introducing a counterfeit. In those churches which he can bring under his deceptive power he will make it appear that God's special blessing is poured out; there will be manifest what is thought to be great religious interest. Multitudes will exult that God is working marvelously for them, when the work is that of another spirit. Under a religious guise, Satan will seek to extend his influence over the Christian world.*
Despite this, we can be sure that God is always with us. All those who deny themselves and take up His cross daily, will find the peace that their soul so desperately needs.
And it shall come to pass that; whoever calls on the name of the LORD; shall be saved. Joel 2:32.

He who becomes a partaker of the divine nature will be in harmony with God's great standard of righteousness, His holy law. This is the rule by which God measures the actions of men. This will be the test of character in the judgment.

The School Of The Hereafter (Part 3)

As part of the school of the hereafter we will obtain a clarity with which we can study the great themes of eternity.
For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. 1 Corinthians 13:12.
Our studies will also include the development of the great plan of God to redeem His character and save humanity.
Then will be opened before him the course of the great conflict that had its birth before time began, and that ends only when time shall cease. The history of the inception of sin; of fatal falsehood in its crooked working; of truth that, swerving not from its own straight lines, has met and conquered error--all will be made manifest. The veil that interposes between the visible and the invisible world will be drawn aside, and wonderful things will be revealed. *
Can you imagine how it will be when the veil of the invisible is drawn aside? Seeing God face to face, seeing the angels who protected us day after day and being seen just as we are before the image of God.
Not until the providences of God are seen in the light of eternity shall we understand what we owe to the care and interposition of His angels. Celestial beings have taken an active part in the affairs of men. They have appeared in garments that shone as the lightning; they have come as men, in the garb of wayfarers. They have accepted the hospitalities of human homes; they have acted as guides to benighted travelers. They have thwarted the spoiler's purpose and turned aside the stroke of the destroyer.*
Better than watching any movie will be the presentation of the scenes of your life as they show the great work that was done for man. Work which may not now be seen and is often ignored completely.
Though the rulers of this world know it not, yet often in their councils angels have been spokesmen. Human eyes have looked upon them. Human ears have listened to their appeals. In the council hall the court of justice, heavenly messengers have pleaded the cause of the persecuted and oppressed. They have defeated purposes and arrested evils that would have brought wrong and suffering to God's children. To the students in the heavenly school, all this will be unfolded. *
After God, perhaps no one know us better than the angel who was with you since you came into this world. He saw everything, he lived through everything with you. He felt the sadness when you were sad and joy when you were happy. He was glad to serve by your side to save other souls from the clutches of the enemy.
Every redeemed one will understand the ministry of angels in his own life. The angel who was his guardian from his earliest moment; the angel who watched his steps, and covered his head in the day of peril; the angel who was with him in the valley of the shadow of death, who marked his resting place, who was the first to greet him in the resurrection morning--what will it be to hold converse with him, and to learn the history of divine interposition in the individual life, of heavenly co-operation in every work for humanity! *
In the midst of the valley of the shadow and death it is hard to remember that God is with us. Our eyes of faith do not see the faithful messengers from heaven by our side. But they were always there.
All the perplexities of life's experience will then be made plain. Where to us have appeared only confusion and disappointment, broken purposes and thwarted plans, will be seen a grand, overruling, victorious purpose, a divine harmony. *
God has a purpose, that we all reach the school of the hereafter.
What a great hope and assurance the Lord gives us. The angel who was with us, marks our resting place and he will be the first we see in the morning of the resurrection. The Lord will never forget his faithful. Soon He shall return! And our greatest desires will be fulfilled.

Thought Of The Day

Here are your life-insurance papers. This is not an insurance policy the value of which someone else will receive after your death; it is a policy that assures you a life measuring with the life of God--even eternal life. O what an assurance! what a hope! Let us ever reveal to the world that we are seeking for a better country, even a heavenly. Heaven has been made for us, and we want a part in it. We cannot afford to allow anything to separate us from God and heaven. In this life we must be partakers of the divine nature. Brethren and sisters, you have only one life to live. O let it be a life of virtue, a life hid with Christ in God!

Thought Of The Day

Oh, who will describe to you the lamentations that will arise when at the boundary line which parts time and eternity the righteous Judge will lift up His voice and declare, "It is too late." Long have the wide gates of heaven stood open and the heavenly messengers have invited and entreated "Whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely" (Rev. 22:17). "To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your heart." But at length the mandate goes forth, "He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still" (Rev. 22:11).

If He Were To Return Today

Prepare to meet your God… Amos 4:12.
Let us begin by considering why it seems that God has delayed his promise.
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9.
It is necessary to understand that, for our sake, God still has not fulfilled His promise. We have lost sight of the heavenly things because of the earthly ones. The visible has covered the invisible.
We are now upon the very borders of the eternal world, but it is the purpose of the adversary of souls to lead us to put far off the close of time. Satan will in every conceivable manner assail those who profess to be the commandment-keeping people of God and to be waiting for the second appearing of our Saviour in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. He will lead as many as possible to put off the evil day and become in spirit like the world, imitating its customs. *1
Our sovereign God knows the exact date and time in which this world will come to an end. We may not have the power to change the circumstances of this world, but our preparation and that of those around us is part of this chain of events leading to the soon return of Jesus.
In consideration of the shortness of time we as a people should watch and pray, and in no case allow ourselves to be diverted from the solemn work of preparation for the great event before us. Because the time is apparently extended, many have become careless and indifferent in regard to their words and actions. They do not realize their danger and do not see and understand the mercy of our God in lengthening their probation, that they may have time to form characters for the future, immortal life. Every moment is of the highest value. Time is granted them, not to be employed in studying their own ease and becoming dwellers on the earth, but to be used in the work of overcoming every defect in their own characters and in helping others, by example and personal effort, to see the beauty of holiness. God has a people upon the earth who in faith and holy hope are tracing down the roll of fast-fulfilling prophecy and are seeking to purify their souls by obeying the truth, that they may not be found without the wedding garment when Christ shall appear.* 1
But what if the Lord were to come today. Are we were ready? Carefully consider this series of questions that the servant of the Lord makes.

Suppose that today Christ should appear in the clouds of heaven, who…would be ready to meet Him? Suppose we should be translated into the kingdom of heaven just as we are. Would we be prepared to unite with the saints of God, to live in harmony with the royal family, the children of the heavenly King? What preparation have you made for the judgment? Have you made your peace with God? Are you laboring together with God? Are you seeking to help those around you, those in your home, those in your neighborhood, those with whom you come in contact that are not keeping the commandments of God?…Are we getting ready to meet the King? *2
Now is the time to prepare. Just as people prepared in the past for the day of atonement, we should prepare for the glorious meeting with Christ Jesus.

If it were possible for us to be admitted into heaven as we are, how many of us would be able to look upon God? How many of us have on the wedding-garment? How many of us are without spot or wrinkle or any such thing? How many of us are worthy to receive the crown of life?…Position does not make the man. It is Christ formed within that makes a man worthy of receiving the crown of life, that fadeth not away. *2
What should we be doing now? We are doing so little yet we are satisfied.

…“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works. Matthew 16:24-27.
It is clear what the Lord demands of us and compared to the greatness of heaven it is insignificant.

I was pointed to the remnant on the earth. The angel said to them, "Will ye shun the seven last plagues?…If so, ye must die that ye may live. Get ready, get ready, get ready. Ye must have a greater preparation than ye now have….Sacrifice all to God. Lay all upon His altar--self, property, and all, a living sacrifice. It will take all to enter glory." * 2
There are many things that make us lose sight of heaven. I do not know why we desire to remain in this world when we consider the greatness of what God offers us.
But rest assured that the end is near. If He were to come today, would you be ready?

Thought Of The Day

We are almost home; we shall soon hear the voice of the Saviour richer than any music, saying, Your warfare is accomplished. Enter into the joy of thy Lord. Blessed, blessed benediction; I want to hear it from His immortal lips. I want to praise Him; I want to honor Him that sitteth on the throne. I want my voice to echo and re-echo through the courts of heaven. Will you be there?...God help us, and fill us with all fullness and power, and then we can taste of the joys of the world to come.

If Today Were The Last Day

But Hezekiah did not repay according to the favor shown him, for his heart was lifted up; therefore wrath was looming over him and over Judah and Jerusalem. 2 Chronicles 32:25.
Hezekiah was healed of his illness. God demonstrated His power and patience by giving a sign that awoke the curiosity of the inhabitants of Babylon.

This was the perfect opportunity for Hezekiah to speak to this nation about who the true God was. But, unfortunately, that was not what he did. Human nature once again overcame in spite of what God had done for him.

What did the king do?
And Hezekiah was attentive to them, and showed them all the house of his treasures—the silver and gold, the spices and precious ointment, and all his armory—all that was found among his treasures. There was nothing in his house or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them. 2 Kings 20:13.
Obviously, Hezekiah did not consider the consequences of his actions. Instead of serving as an ambassador of God, he aroused the greed and love of earthly things in these men of Babylon.

But pride and vanity took possession of Hezekiah's heart, and in self-exaltation he laid open to covetous eyes the treasures with which God had enriched His people…Not to glorify God did he do this, but to exalt himself in the eyes of the foreign princes. He did not stop to consider that these men were representatives of a powerful nation that had not the fear nor the love of God in their hearts, and that it was imprudent to make them his confidants concerning the temporal riches of the nation.*
Instead of serving as an aid, King Hezekiah served as tempter to these men. Without the fear of God, what would stop them from attacking  and taking possession of all these treasures they had seen?

Then Isaiah the prophet went to King Hezekiah, and said to him, “What did these men say, and from where did they come to you?” So Hezekiah said, “They came from a far country, from Babylon.” And he said, “What have they seen in your house?” So Hezekiah answered, “They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them.” Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD: ‘Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and what your fathers have accumulated until this day, shall be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left,’ says the LORD. ‘And they shall take away some of your sons who will descend from you, whom you will beget; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’” 2 Kings 20:14-18.
It is as if he had allowed a thief to see the contents of the safe. Seeing large and valuable treasures, these men would simply employ more effort to obtain them.

How disastrous the results which were to follow! To Isaiah it was revealed that the returning ambassadors were carrying with them a report of the riches they had seen, and that the king of Babylon and his counselors would plan to enrich their own country with the treasures of Jerusalem. Hezekiah had grievously sinned; "therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem." *
However, regarding the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, whom they sent to him to inquire about the wonder that was done in the land, God withdrew from him, in order to test him, that He might know allthat was in his heart. 2 Chronicles 32:31.
The visit of the ambassadors to Hezekiah was a test of his gratitude and devotion…Had Hezekiah improved the opportunity given him to bear witness to the power, the goodness, the compassion, of the God of Israel, the report of the ambassadors would have been as light piercing darkness. But he magnified himself above the Lord of hosts.*
Him who crying, prayed to God to extend his life, now sought forgiveness of his terrible sin. Sin for which many would suffer.

Then Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD did not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah. 2 Chronicles 32:26.
It might seem unfair for Hezekiah’s mistake to bring suffering to future generations. But this world is more complex and sin is much more encompassing, so the actions of this man simply started a chain of events.
This is what we must understand!

Every day of life is freighted with responsibilities which we must bear. Every day, our words and acts are making impressions upon those with whom we associate. How great the need that we set a watch upon our lips and guard carefully our steps! One reckless movement, one imprudent step, and the surging waves of some strong temptation may sweep a soul into the downward path. We cannot gather up the thoughts we have planted in human minds. If they have been evil, we may have set in motion a train of circumstances, a tide of evil, which we are powerless to stay. *
Insignificant things can have great impact in the lives of others. Ideas become implanted and cannot later be removed. But they can also be a great blessing.

On the other hand, if by our example we aid others in the development of good principles, we give them power to do good. In their turn they exert the same beneficial influence over others. Thus hundreds and thousands are helped by our unconscious influence. The true follower of Christ strengthens the good purposes of all with whom he comes in contact. Before an unbelieving, sin-loving world he reveals the power of God's grace and the perfection of His character.*
I conclude with this thought. Something we should meditate each day. Tomorrow may be too late.

Those with whom we associate day by day need our help, our guidance. They may be in such a condition of mind that a word spoken in season will be as a nail in a sure place. Tomorrow some of these souls may be where we can never reach them again. What is our influence over these fellow travelers? *

Thought Of The Day

If the time seems long to wait for our Deliverer to come, if, bowed by affliction and worn with toil, we feel impatient for our commission to close, and to receive an honorable release from the warfare, let us remember--and let the remembrance check every murmur--that God leaves us on earth to encounter storms and conflicts, to perfect Christian character, to become better acquainted with God our Father and Christ our Elder Brother, and to do work for the Master in winning many souls to Christ, that with glad heart we may hear the words "Well done, good and faithful servant;...enter thou into the joy of thy lord" (Matt. 25:23).

Thought Of The Day

The fulfilling of the signs of the times gives evidence that the day of the Lord is near at hand...The crisis is stealing gradually upon us. The sun shines in the heavens, passing over its usual round, and the heavens still declare the glory of God. Men are still eating and drinking, planting and building, marrying and giving in marriage. Merchants are still buying and selling...Pleasure lovers are still crowding to theaters, horse races, gambling hells. The highest excitement prevails, yet probation's hour is fast closing, and every case is about to be eternally decided. Satan sees that his time is short. He has set all his agents to work, that men may be deceived, deluded, occupied, and entranced until the day of probation shall be ended and the door of mercy be forever shut.

Thought Of The Day

All this humiliation and anguish were endured to bring back the wanderers, guilty and thankless, to the Father's house. O the home of the blest--I cannot afford to lose it! I shall, if saved in the kingdom of God, be constantly discerning new depths in the plan of salvation. All the redeemed saints will see and appreciate as never before the love of the Father and the Son, and songs of praise will burst forth from immortal tongues. He loved us, He gave His life for us. With glorified bodies, with enlarged capacities, with hearts made pure, with lips undefiled, we shall sing the riches of redeeming love. There will be no suffering ones in heaven, no skeptics whom we must labor to convince of the reality of eternal things, no prejudices to uproot, but all will be susceptible to that love which passeth knowledge. Rest, thank God, there is a rest for the people of God, where Jesus will lead the redeemed into green pastures, by the streams of living waters which make glad the city of our God. Then the prayer of Jesus to His Father will be answered: "I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am."

I Had The Opportunity But Did Not Take It

And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “What is the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the LORD the third day?” Then Isaiah said, “This is the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing which He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees or go backward ten degrees?” And Hezekiah answered, “It is an easy thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees; no, but let the shadow go backward ten degrees.” So Isaiah the prophet cried out to the LORD, and He brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down on the sundial of Ahaz. 2 Kings 20:8-11.
As I mentioned before, this was a great sign from God. Perhaps at that time,  there were no records kept as they are now but there were astronomers who noticed the changes and variations in the skys.
At that time Berodach-Baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick. 2 Kings 20:12.
The King of Babylon was amazed not only by the fact that King Hezekiah was healed but also by the great sign that God had made.

In the fertile valleys of the Tigris and the Euphrates there dwelt an ancient race which, though at that time subject to Assyria, was destined to rule the world. Among its people were wise men who gave much attention to the study of astronomy; and when they noticed that the shadow on the sundial had been turned back ten degrees, they marveled greatly. Their king, Merodachbaladan, upon learning that this miracle had been wrought as a sign to the king of Judah that the God of heaven had granted him a new lease of life, sent ambassadors to Hezekiah to congratulate him on his recovery and to learn, if possible, more of the God who was able to perform so great a wonder. *
The Lord used this amazing sign on earth to awaken the curiosity of these men to learn about Him.

The visit of these messengers from the ruler of a far-away land gave Hezekiah an opportunity to extol the living God. How easy it would have been for him to tell them of God, the upholder of all created things, through whose favor his own life had been spared when all other hope had fled! What momentous transformations might have taken place had these seekers after truth from the plains of Chaldea been led to acknowledge the supreme sovereignty of the living God! *
This is a warning to all of us. The world cries peace even in the midst of the big signs on earth that announce the end of everything. Earthquakes, are a cry of nature that soon this land will be destroyed and thus giving us a chance to warn everyone about the coming of Jesus.

But we are not doing so. We follow what the world says and do not watch and pray. The world sees God's people sleeping and instead to teaching these great truths, instead of hearing the loud voice of the third angel's message they see in us satisfaction, indifference, apathy.

Rest assured. The third message will be preached with great power! The Lord will soon return! The question is, what side will you be on?

Thought Of The Day

When you look at the cross of Calvary you cannot doubt God's love or His willingness to save. He has worlds upon worlds that give Him divine honor, and heaven and all the universe would have been just as happy if He had left this world to perish, but so great was His love for the fallen race that He gave His own dear Son to die that they might be redeemed from eternal death. As we see the care, the love, that God has for us, let us respond to it; let us give to Jesus all the powers of our being, fighting manfully the battles of the Lord. We cannot afford to lose our souls; we cannot afford to sin against God. Life, eternal life in the kingdom of glory, is worth everything.

What Could Have Been...

Let's look at the life of someone who will serve as the introduction to a series on the heavenly sanctuary and the investigative judgment. This character was a king, a servant of God, who strove to do good but learned the hard way the consequences of a bad decision.
In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die, and not live.’” Then he turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the LORD, saying, “Remember now, O LORD, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. 2 Kings 20:1-3.
Hezekiah was one of the few kings who had done right in the eyes of God. From this we can note two things.
The first, is that sometimes bad things happen to good people. It is difficult to understand but God knows why He permits certain things to happen and in this case Hezekiah’s days were numbered. As would be normal, at the news of his imminent death, king Hezekiah was deeply saddened and wept bitterly.

The second, is that although we do not always get the answer we seek, God always hears us. There are times when our loved ones go to rest but God has heard our prayers and when we are together in heaven, His reasoning will be revealed to us.
And it happened, before Isaiah had gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, Return and tell Hezekiah the leader of My people, ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD. And I will add to your days fifteen years. I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for My own sake, and for the sake of My servant David. 2 Kings 20:4-6.
It is unclear how many days king Hezekiah had left. We do not know how his last days would have been, if his death was to be sudden or long and painful, but God heard his cry and extended his life 15 years.

Then Isaiah said, “Take a lump of figs.” So they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered. 2 Kings 20:7.
Obviously, disbelief brought this man to seek for a sign from God.

And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “What is the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the LORD the third day?”…So Isaiah the prophet cried out to the LORD, and He brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down on the sundial of Ahaz. 2 Kings 20:8, 11.
What a great sign God gave him! I am no expert, but my interest in astronomy, leads me to speculate what happened. The earth is moving in two distinct ways causing the shadow to progress on the sundial.

The earth is in orbit around the sun and it also rotates on its axis. Scientifically speaking, it would require the earth to stop rotating and begin spinning the other way and then stop spinning and resume its original motion. Option B, would include the earth moving in opposite direction in its orbit around the sun.

In any case such an explanation is not necessary, knowing that God created this universe He has much more power to govern the laws that He established and to give life to those who have gone to rest. In this we find the hope that God will come in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory and the dead in Christ shall rise.

Thus Hezekiah's life was preserved for 15 more years.

But, what was the result of this miracle that God worked in his life?

I pause  for a moment to talk about another character whose result would have been different if he had gone to rest before.

The history of Judas presents the sad ending of a life that might have been honored of God. Had Judas died before his last journey to Jerusalem he would have been regarded as a man worthy of a place among the twelve, and one who would be greatly missed. The abhorrence which has followed him through the centuries would not have existed but for the attributes revealed at the close of his history. *1
Unable to see into the future, it is better to accept the will of God even in a situation like that faced by Hezekiah. But God heard his cry and as a result he made a serious error.

But Hezekiah did not repay according to the favor shown him, for his heart was lifted up; therefore wrath was looming over him and over Judah and Jerusalem. 2 Chronicles 32:25.
What would we do if today was our last night? What would be in our hearts? Are we ready to enter heaven?

Thought Of The Day

...When the heart yields to the influence of the Spirit of God, the conscience will be quickened, and the sinner will discern something of the depth and sacredness of God's holy law, the foundation of His government in heaven and on earth. The "Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world," illumines the secret chambers of the soul, and the hidden things of darkness are made manifest. John 1:9. Conviction takes hold upon the mind and heart. The sinner has a sense of the righteousness of Jehovah and feels the terror of appearing, in his own guilt and uncleanness, before the Searcher of hearts. He sees the love of God, the beauty of holiness, the joy of purity; he longs to be cleansed and to be restored to communion with Heaven.

Thought Of The Day

God never asks us to believe, without giving sufficient evidence upon which to base our faith. His existence, His character, the truthfulness of His word, are all established by testimony that appeals to our reason; and this testimony is abundant. Yet God has never removed the possibility of doubt. Our faith must rest upon evidence, not demonstration. Those who wish to doubt will have opportunity; while those who really desire to know the truth will find plenty of evidence on which to rest their faith.

Thought Of The Day

In view of the glorious inheritance that may be his, "what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" Matthew 16:26. He may be poor, yet he possesses in himself a wealth and dignity that the world could never bestow. The soul redeemed and cleansed from sin, with all its noble powers dedicated to the service of God, is of surpassing worth; and there is joy in heaven in the presence of God and the holy angels over one soul redeemed, a joy that is expressed in songs of holy triumph.

Thought Of The Day

The heart of God yearns over His earthly children with a love stronger than death. In giving up His Son, He has poured out to us all heaven in one gift. The Saviour's life and death and intercession, the ministry of angels, the pleading of the Spirit, the Father working above and through all, the unceasing interest of heavenly beings,--all are enlisted in behalf of man's redemption.

Thought Of The Day

Nature and revelation alike testify of God's love. Our Father in heaven is the source of life, of wisdom, and of joy. Look at the wonderful and beautiful things of nature. Think of their marvelous adaptation to the needs and happiness, not only of man, but of all living creatures. The sunshine and the rain, that gladden and refresh the earth, the hills and seas and plains, all speak to us of the Creator's love. It is God who supplies the daily needs of all His creatures.

The School Of The Hereafter (Part 2)

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away...Revelation 21:1.
Before talking about what we shall study for all eternity let’s begin by stating what there will not be in the school of the hereafter.
The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. Revelation 21:23.
Let look at the difficulties that will be removed, the exams that will no longer exist and the limitations that will be removed.
No tree of knowledge of good and evil will afford opportunity for temptation. No tempter is there, no possibility of wrong. Every character has withstood the testing of evil, and none are longer susceptible to its power. *
…When, the blight of sin removed, the whole earth shall appear in "the beauty of the Lord our God," what a field will be open to our study! There the student of science may read the records of creation and discern no reminders of the law of evil. He may listen to the music of nature's voices and detect no note of wailing or undertone of sorrow. In all created things he may trace one handwriting--in the vast universe behold "God's name writ large," and not in earth or sea or sky one sign of ill remaining.*
For the LORD will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness will be found in it, thanksgiving and the voice of melody. Isaiah 51:3.

What a different world it will be when there is no longer a deceiver; when sin is destroyed and its most terrible consequence, death, shall be no more!
The Lord promises to change our tears to joy. Those who now remain faithful and firm will have the privilege of participating in this school forever.

... These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Revelation 7:14-17.
Then, in the results of His work, Christ will behold its recompense. In that great multitude which no man could number, presented "faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy" (Jude 24), He whose blood has redeemed and whose life has taught us, "shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied." Isaiah 53:11. *

Jesus Resurrected

Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Pilate marveled that He was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him if He had been dead for some time. So when he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses observed where He was laid. Mark 15:42-47.
At the eve of the Sabbath, the Lord concluded his plan of salvation. The Lord rested on the Saturday after his work of creation and He would rest on the Saturday after his work of redemption. This fact is evident, since Jesus died long before a person would normally die on a cross.

To ensure that He really was dead the soldiers pierced his side with a spear. Water and blood came out of this wound but unlike the thieves and according to prophecy, no bone was broken.

Later we will see about Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, two men of the council that while they secretly followed Jesus, they did what the poor disciples were unable to do.

The servant of the Lord describes this Saturday as a sad day. The disciples were without their teacher. They were without the one who always spoke words of consolation, the one who had helped them grow spiritually, and the son of God with which they were together with daily. Like any separation caused by death, sadness abounded in their hearts.

With the death of Christ the hopes of His disciples perished. They looked upon His closed eyelids and drooping head, His hair matted with blood, His pierced hands and feet, and their anguish was indescribable. Until the last they had not believed that He would die; they could hardly believe that He was really dead. Overwhelmed with sorrow, they did not recall His words foretelling this very scene. Nothing that He had said now gave them comfort. They saw only the cross and its bleeding Victim. The future seemed dark with despair. Their faith in Jesus had perished; but never had they loved their Lord as now. Never before had they so felt His worth, and their need of His presence. *1
The disciples missed the presence of the one whom they loved. They were disconsolate despite the words of hope that Jesus had given them.
The atmosphere at the temple was also somber. The sick came to Jesus for healing of body and soul but He was now gone.

The friendly hands of Jesus of Nazareth, that never refused to touch with healing the loathsome leper, were folded on His breast. The lips that had answered his petition with the comforting words, "I will; be thou clean" (Matt. 8:3), were now silent. *1
The sufferers who had come to be healed by the Saviour sank under their disappointment. The streets were filled with mourning. The sick were dying for want of the healing touch of Jesus. Physicians were consulted in vain; there was no skill like that of Him who lay in Joseph's tomb. *1
The leaders and principalities all remembered the words of Jesus. They feared that the disciples would steal Jesus’ body and then should say that He had risen.

On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, saying, “Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise.’ Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse than the first.” Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how.” So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard. Matthew 27:62-66.
The rulers of darkness, the spiritual forces of evil were also there trying to prevent the resurrection of Jesus. Humanity would have been doomed forever if the Lord had not broken the chains of death.

Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. Matthew 28:1-6.
The most powerful angel from heaven descended and rolled away the stone. The One who gave His life could also take it back.

Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. John 10:17.
Just as an earthquake announced His death, an also earthquake announced His resurrection. On the final day when He comes with power and great glory, when He comes with all the angels of heaven, what will become of this earth if even the powers of heaven will be shaken?

Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:54.
Christ arose from the dead as the first fruits of those that slept…His resurrection is the type and pledge of the resurrection of all the righteous dead. "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him." 1 Thess. 4:14.*2
To the believer, death is but a small matter. Christ speaks of it as if it were of little moment. "If a man keep My saying, he shall never see death," "he shall never taste of death." To the Christian, death is but a sleep, a moment of silence and darkness. The life is hid with Christ in God, and "when Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory." John 8:51, 52; Col. 3:4. *2
The voice that cried from the cross, "It is finished," was heard among the dead. It pierced the walls of sepulchers, and summoned the sleepers to arise. Thus will it be when the voice of Christ shall be heard from heaven. That voice will penetrate the graves and unbar the tombs, and the dead in Christ shall arise. At the Saviour's resurrection a few graves were opened, but at His second coming all the precious dead shall hear His voice, and shall come forth to glorious, immortal life. The same power that raised Christ from the dead will raise His church, and glorify it with Him, above all principalities, above all powers, above every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in the world to come. * 2

JESUS IS COMING, AMEN, YES, COME LORD JESUS!
