THE LAW IS ETERNAL

In Isaiah we find the well know verse,

The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.* 1

This verse leads us to understand two fundamental principles which must never be forgotten. The word of God is eternal; it has never changed and it never will. This is true because God Himself is eternal, he is

the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." *2.

God has been the same from the beginning and will always remain the same. Therefore, His word and everything in it, including the Ten Commandments, remains the same. Notice that Jesus himself said,

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled."*3

Christ could not have been clearer on this subject. Jesus fulfilled the law and his death on the cross does not remove it for not one jot or tittle will pass till heaven in earth pass away!

Now I take a moment to clarify that we are "justified by faith," *4 and therefore, "saved by grace." *5. But the apostle Paul explains that faith does not void the law but instead establishes it. *6. Moreover, in reference to the end of times the Bible says:

"Here is the patience of the saints who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus." * 7

Note that this description of the Saints is found within the third angel’s message, the message for our times! God is eternal, His word is eternal and His law is eternal.

Following the law does not save us but instead identifies us with God and shows Him how we feel. Jesus said,

"If you love me, keep My commandments." *8.

If we keep His commandments the Lord makes us a conditional promise,

He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is who loves me and he who loves Me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him."* 9

Furthermore, in looking at the plan of salvation, God's law tells us that

"the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." * 10

Thus God fulfilled what His law demanded by giving His only begotten Son to die on the cross for us. How perfect God’s law is that he does not remove or modify it but instead fulfills it Himself! The enemy will do everything in his power to make us believe that the law of God no longer exists or that it can be changed.

... the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. * 11

The dragon, that is, Satan represents all that is contrary to God and makes war against everyone that loves God and keeps His commandments. This will be of utmost importance in the last days.

In conclusion, I emphasize what I have learned concerning God’s perfect law. The law frees us. It frees us from the clutches of the enemy, frees us from slavery to sin, delivers us from hatred and leads us to the love of God. Many will say, following God is difficult, there are too many rules to follow, too many restrictions, I cannot enjoy life. But every part of the law established by God is to give us eternal happiness. Heaven is a place of order, a place of perfection in which God's law is essential. His law protects us from ourselves and it guarantees that God will love us for all eternity if we keep it. Would you rather enjoy a passing pleasure, a momentary joy or eternal life in heaven filled with true happiness? The Lord transforms us and naturally if we contemplate Jesus his law is no longer a burden but a delight! Do you want to truly know God and experience His love? Receive him in your heart and keep His eternal law!
